New thing of the day, tried a new vegetable sour Sinigang soup.
It didn't start out as soup. It started out as frozen vegetables. I had a mix of frozen mixed veggies and some frozen peppers. Decided I didn't want to microwave them, so I put them in a pot with some water and was going to boil them until they were done. Then drain the water and have boiled veggies.
While it was waiting to boil I added some spices and garlic. Then it started to look a lot like veggie soup. I know that a lot of nutrients are lost in the broth, so I decided, why not turn it into soup. The other day we were at a Filipino market and I bought some ready made Siningang soup mix and decided to add some of that in.
Sinigang is a sour Filipino soup that is usually cooked with shrimp, chicken or pork and a variety of vegetables including tomato, green beans, eggplant, etc. It's a comfort food and perfect for this cold weather. Anyway I added some of the Siningang mix, and let the water start to get hot/boil. Then we ate.
It was interesting. It was tasty. I definitely prefer my vegetables cooked rather than raw. They're softer I think is the main reason I like them. Also they're a milder flavor. Regular Siningag has a meat or seafood flavor to it. This one, all veggies, still good but without that extra fat flavoring - healthier!
So this was new - a purely vegetable and completely impromptu Sinigang soup. Mabuhay!
