Whip It

New thing of the day, saw the movie Whip It.

This is a terrible movie! I ordered it on Netflix because I heard good things about it. Then it was just painful to sit through and overall I didn't like it.

It's too indy and quirky, something very trite and annoying at this point. The main character is indy and quirky and is out of place in her current situation, so she finds herself and learns to stand up in the sport of roller derby. It has some neat actors like Eve, Drew Barrymore, Marcia Gay Harden and Juliette Lewis. It's just annoying because we've seen this quirky adorable fish out of water story before.

UGHHH!

The only parts I did like, were the way they approached some of the issues. The main character is rebelling against her mother, but the friend says something along the lines of - you're being selfish, your mother loves and and although she's wrong about this she's not wrong about everything and you should still find a way to listen and respect her. It's a cool nice twist on a broken record.

I actually fast forwarded through this and when it looked like it might be interesting dialogue I played the scene. It's a lot of cliche crap and it's so Fing annoying. I know some people love this movie. Maybe we weren't in the mood when we saw it? The only new thing was the sport of roller derby. Overall it felt like a cliche overdone broken record Disney movie with hipster clothes, music and actors. So sad I wasted my life on this.
