Burbank Airport Veggie Frittata

New thing today, tried a breakfast Veggie Frittata at the cafe at the Burbank airport. We were waiting to drop someone off, and decided to try it while we waited. Surprisingly large and delicious. I was expecting re-microwaved pre-frozen overpriced food. Instead I got a hot, fresh and healthy yummy giant breakfast. Took some home, but it was delicious! Try it!

Pineapple Cottage Cheese

New thing today, had LowFat Pineapple Cottage Cheese from Fresh & Easy. Holy smokes this stuff is great. Originally got it for the husband, but he found it too sugary sweet. I thought it was just right and so had some for breakfast with a few nuts sprinkled in. DELISH! It's probably a new favorite thing. It seems pretty healthy. So glad - new delicious discovery and regular favorite!

Eggs 'N' Things Counter Seating & Veggie Omelette

New thing today, had a Veggie Omelette at Eggs 'N' Things and sat at the counter. Both were good experiences! I loved sitting at the counter and watching all the kitchen and action running the restaurant. Also the veggie omelet was delish! Yeay Eggs & Things!

Portos Breakfast - Guacamole Croissant and Chorizo Cuban

New thing today, tried new Portos breakfast sandwiches.

First was a guacamole, cheese and egg croissant. It's healthier, gooey and soft goodness. Not a lot of different textures going on, but good flavor.

I also tried the chorizo egg and cheese sandwich on a cuban roll. Also good, and I liked the flavor of this much better.

Good stuff :) The only thing I might say is I wish they had salty chips instead of banana chips. Would make a nicer accompaniment, but alas, it's still good Portos stuff.

Breakfast Outside

New thing today, ate breakfast outside. At work I usually eat breakfast at my desk. Today I took a 10 minute break, stood outside, ate my oatmeal while standing and enjoyed the scenery. Might have looked weird to an outsider, or really cool. Anyway it was lovely. I love California 80 degree weather in October. Here was my view :) I need to do that more often.

Eggs & Things & Thor

New thing of the day, Eggs & Things & Thor.

So for some weird reason we were up early, naturally. I was up around 7am and husband at 7:30am. We planned to see Thor at the first showing 10am, so decided to take advantage of our early up to try Eggs & Things - a place that always looks packed but since we were early we had hope.

Showed up to the restaurant at 8:10am, and it was full. There were about 6 people waiting outside so we had a back-up plan to go somewhere else if it was more than a 30 minute wait. We walked in and a waitress looked at us, asked "two?" and then got us at a table/seat. We were sitting down within 1 minute of walking in the door. Pretty cool for a packed house.

Apparently they were sitting the couples as a lot of families were waiting for 4+ seats. Service was super fast and super attentive and friendly. The place was packed and popular. They had one family getting up, table cleaned and a new family sitting down within maybe 3 minutes. Pretty amazing. Even with that they still paid attention and had great service.

We got crepes as an appetizer - amazingly delicious. Husband got a pork omelette, biscuits and hash browns. I got a California scramble over english muffin with hollandaise and fruit. Sorry no pics :( Am just getting back into the blogging. All of it was fresh, highest quality ingredients and delish! We got our check fairly quick, but it didn't feel like they were shooing us to hurry up and get out. We paid quick as there were a lot of people waiting. By the time we left, 8:50am, there were maybe 30 people waiting outside, and 10 or so inside for  table. Incredible how packed and big the place was. 9am and the place was hopping?

Then off to watch Thor. We were the first ones in the theater. I liked the movie but didn't think it was great. Liked the characters and drama between Thor, Loki and his father. I thought Asgard was awesome amazing but it definitely felt like a green screen movie. The setting of New Mexico was a bit blah but loved Natalie Portman even though I wasn't oozing over Thor. I really liked how they developed Loki's character and the development of Thor as well. The movie was missing something though. Not sure what it was, but it was missing something. Maybe a bit of soul? Felt very much produced, blockbuster superhero movie. Thor was a tough character to work, and I think they did a good job, just was missing that certain je ne sais quoi.

Overall it was a new thing day :) Eggs and Things we will go back. Thor, husband will probably get the movie like all the other comic book ones.

Hash House A Go Go - Imperial Palace Las Vegas

New thing of the day, tried Hash House A Go Go - restaurant in Las Vegas.

We watch Man vs Food and one of his shows featured this place in Vegas called Hash Hash a Go Go. It had massive portions and as they say in the promos "Twisted Farm Food". We were staying in Vegas and our hotel Imperial Palace - also a first/new thing - had this restaurant in their lobby. I was so frickin excited to try it out so we woke up on Saturday and decided to have Brunch there.

So, we had a 20 minute wait for our table, and as I was excited and hungry we knew by the time we sat down what we wanted to order. Our waiter was nice but really inattentive. He sat us down, got our drink orders, then I was like "we know what to order so can we put in our order now" and he said "sure thing let me get your drinks and i'll be right back to take your order". 15 minutes later he comes back with a soda that took 15 minutes to get/find, then he takes our order? He says that they cook to order so it may take time, and I was fine waiting, so we waited.

We waited, and waited and waited. About 30 minutes passed by and nothing. That's fine, but it wasn't really even that crowded in our section and it was tough just to get refills on our soda and water because our waiter wasn't really around. We saw other waiters and servers a lot more than we saw our waiter. We saw other people waiting awhile for their food and we were ok. Then, 30 minutes into our wait for food, during which I'm quite patient, we see another couple seated next to us. They look at the menu and our waiter takes their order right away. About 20 minutes later (at this point we've waited 50 minutes), the couple next to us gets their orders!!!!! OMG!!!!!!!

I was soooo pissed! It's fine if everyone waits a ridiculous amount of time for their food, but the fact that the people who came in after us got their food before us was ridiculous. We waited another 10 minutes for our food - that's ONE HOUR for a meal to be set in front of us after we order.

By this time, I was so pissed off at our wait, that I had a hard time enjoying the food. I ordered a sage fried chicken benedict - the Man vs Food favorite dish. Basically it was a biscuit, mashed potatoes, tomato, egg, cheese and chicken covered in a chipotle cream sauce. It was a lot of food and good food, not great or amazing. The chicken was juicy and tender and the breading was good, but I couldn't taste it over the bitter of my wait time.

My husband ordered the Kokomo Burger - a meatloaf burger and a signature dish. The best part about this dish was the massive bread it was on - so fresh and buttery good. The fries were good too. The meatloaf, dry and not too tasty.

It was an overall disappointment. Overall I found it very difficult to enjoy because of the ridiculous wait time and our inattentive waiter. We even tipped him decently but I severely regret it. I'm usually open to giving things second chances and trying it again. Perhaps this was just unlucky. But I'm absolutely furious at our service and the average overrated quality of the food. It was good, giant portions don't make it great. Plus we're in Vegas so what the heck are we going to do with all those leftovers?

We boxed it all up and as we were walking the strip gave it to a homeless person. I was a bit sad because we gave all 2 boxes of leftovers to just one homeless person. We kept walking and saw more homeless, and I wished that we'd saved a box for the next person we saw. Oh well.

Anyway, I'm very distraught by this experience and not sure I'll try it again. I was whole heartedly disappointed. I wanted to love this place and I was incredibly excited to try their food. Husband brought up an excellent point - not every new experience can be a great or positive one. This is true. I just really wished/wanted this one to be a great. Oh well.

It's interesting but the more I'm trying new things, the more it's been amiss. Usually I try new things and 80% is good. These days it feels like the percentage is going down, about 70%. Maybe because I am trying more new things, not just better bets, so I'm hitting more misses than usual.

Anyway, this is what was left of my benedict. A ridiculous giant mess, just like the restaurant.

Crumb Hostess Donuts

New thing of today, Crumb Hostess donuts. Got them off the food truck that stops by our place. So for breakfast, I had a Carnation instant breakfast drink (not new), Cheetos (not new for breakfast either) but the donuts were new. Overall good :) Satisfied the sweet tooth.

Ya it was that kind of day. I don't usually have a sweet tooth, but this time every 30 days I do. Also, we left the air conditioning on all day on accident, that was new, but not on purpose so doesn't really count. At least it was cool when we got home but was very sad we wasted electricity.

That's all I got today folks? :)
