Note by Note - The Making of Steinway L1037

New thing of today, watched "Note by Note - The Making of Steinway L1037".

It's a very cool documentary about the making of a Steinway piano. Throughout the year it takes to make the Steinway piano, they interview some famous pianists and the people who work at Steinway. They also talk about pianos in the industry and some of the difficulties and intricacies of making a piano.

I actually loved the way they talked about and explained the instrument. They say each one is different, because of the creation process, the wood and all the factors that go into making this thing. Pianists will try out different pianos, and get different feels for different ones. There's a collection of concert pianos that are used in great halls and performances. There are many personal pianos that artists like to use or record with. Each piano has its own voice, its own sound. I never knew that before. It was really cool and amazing to see the life of a piano from the choosing of the wood, to the final piano ready to be played.

It was also interesting to hear musicians talk about music and their instruments. I liked hearing from the craftspeople who work with the wood and actually build/create the piano. It's an art that could be lost to mechanization, which I hope it is not. There's soul in the building and creation of a piano. It's an art worth preserving. Lately I've been getting into classical music, and this definitely spoke to me, as the way a piano sounds, it can really be beautiful.

Check out this documentary - I highly recommend it for artists, musicians or for anyone who just likes music.
