New thing today, listened to the Good Life Project podcast interview with Nancy Duarte "Building Biz on Joy, Service and Family". She's an entreupeneur who built a company a presentation company DUARTE with her husband.
I love listening to these types of podcasts whenever I can. It shows life from different perspectives and I like seeing the different ways people survive and thrive. I regularly listen to the Good Life Project podcast and I recommend it for anyone who might be interested. Copied from the Good Life Project website - "About" section below.

"It's about building an extraordinary life, deeper relationships and meaningful bodies of work, businesses and movements. It's about becoming a creator, a leader, a mentor, a giver, a doer. It's about telling a story with your life that you'd want to read and share."
Anyway, this one is about Nancy Duarte and her life and business. Some standout things I connected to.
She fell into her job and never imagined doing what she would do. A few times she kept mentioning that this wasn't her thing, that she couldn't imagine filling that building with her business, but they just kept at it. Basically they started off, and just kept growing and working through issues, problems and work. In the end, they built a culture of family within their business, with a focus on relationships, not money, and upon giving and generosity in life.
Very broad concepts but yes, they like their work and wake up eager to create and build a life and business.
How you ask? She says in the beginning, they happened to be at the right placeat the right time, but also, you have to keep going and imagine the future, keep building and reinventing yourself and keep forecasting and being in the right place at the right time over many years. Basically never stop imagining or competing.
Her comments on her husband and partner were interesting too. Her husband is her balance, her opposite in many ways. She says he's relaxed and in the present, where she's the one always thinking in the future and driving and ambitious about things. I can relate to this. I also believe good partners are essential, and having an opposite to keep you balanced and grounded is key. I totally feel this way with my husband, and we're really good matches for each other. I find that I tend to drive and he stabalizes/grounds us.
There was something about her children too. Building their family business, she felt she was neglecting the children. When she talked and communicated with her daughter, she realized her daughter didn't need her as much as she thought she did, and that her kids were learning through their parents actions and example, not necessarily from quality time together. Her kids were learning to communicate, be independant, living and being passionate at work, and other values about life that were unexpected.
It was an interesting podcast. You could tell from her voice, Nancy was a firecracker - just driven, ambitious, optimistic, hopeful, energetic and passionate. She kept a fast pace and no arrogance or bulldozing, just eagerness in her words.
New things :) I feel new at this again, blogging, but it's a good kind of new. I'll be posting more reviews and reflections of various podcasts. I only started listening to them because we get horrible reception at work, and I can't access much internet, so I pre-download podcasts and listen along while working. Interesting how that bad thing of being unplugged from the internet, can turn into finding great podcasts and inspiring things.
