New thing for today, watched Criagslist Joe. This is a documentary about a Joseph Garner who decided to live off Craigslist for one month. He could ONLY travel, eat, make friends, do activities based off of information from Craigslist. No money, only a backpack, the clothes on his back, a laptop and phone (new phone empty of contacts at beginning).
He ended up traveling around the country, hitching free rides, sleeping over with strangers and doing free activities and basically living off the generosity or reciprocity of strangers. Will do this for that, etc. He even met the founder of Craigslist – THE Craig. The documentary was produced by Zach Galifianakis. When he was all done, he was a few pounds lighter, but he said he was incredibly inspired by the good hearted nature of most people he met, and overall just affected by it all.
Husband and I watched and were appalled at how free he seemed. I think it was only maybe one night Joe was totally without a place to sleep. Most of the time he was fine. They highlighted the interesting characters he met. I envied he was a guy able to do all this. I don't know that a girl could feel so secure and free just going around hoping nothing bad happened. Joe had a camera guy with him off course the whole time, and some if it might have been planned, but overall seemed pretty genuine and sincere in the people he met and his experiences.
How cool would it be to get away, and just live off the Craigslist?
This was a cute documentary. Something a bit lighter and uplifting than some of the other documentary type movies out there. It's short, sweet and interesting. It's not terribly intellectual, introspective or serious. It got some "eh" rotton tomato reviews. If you're looking for a lighter documentary and to see life from another perspective, you might like this.
